Dr. Sketchy’s Los Angeles is thrilled to be partnering with Sketchbook Skool and Artists Network to present seven life drawing sessions at the first SketchKon!
For the first time ever, over five hundred creative folks — including many top sketchbook artists from around the world — will gather in sunny Pasadena to celebrate our art. We’ll share tips, techniques and ideas on drawing people, urban sketching, travel journaling, lettering, design, watercolor, and so much more. We’ll learn about new art materials and new ways to fill our sketchbooks. We’ll draw together, laugh together, eat and drink together and leave filled with new ideas and creative inspiration.
The following figure drawing sessions will feature local models in full costumes as well as various stages of undress.
Pasadena Noir
Sketch a mystery! Four different scenes from a mystery written by Andrea Joseph will be acted out for you to draw. Capture them all and watch the story unfold! Bring your sketchbook and your favorite materials.

Ready-Set-Draw
In this lively workshop, SBS teacher and reportage illustrator Veronica Lawlor will guide you through a series of quick 1 – 5 minute model drawing exercises designed to quicken your pulse and sharpen your skills.
PEOPLE MOVE. They run, they jump, they saunter. How can we capture that feeling of movement without losing the image of the person in the process? By looking at your subject, moving your line, and trusting what you see, you may begin to find that you know and understand more about drawing the figure than you thought you did.
And by practicing some of the techniques of quick capture drawing you’ll learn here when you get home, you’ll be taking your first steps towards knowing how to truly create that direct line between your hand and your eyes.
What you’ll need: a fountain pen or sharpie marker and a large sketchbook – no smaller than 9 x 12. No penciling first or erasers allowed! This workshop is all about experiencing the moment.
